Road Cycling
San Diego Coast: Cruise the 101. You'll have the ocean on your side! Or head north through Camp Pendelton for some excellent miles.
Palomar Mountain: Bring your lungs. 2 main climbs, the first is the South Grade with about 7 miles of switch backs equal to anything you'll find in the Tour De France. On the East Grade it is a bit easier in grade, and you can challenge yourself with about 12 miles of uphill fun.
San Diego County: In general San Diego is very bike friendly with most roads having bike lanes. Rural roads are ridden all the time and drivers are aware of cyclists. As with any ride, just use caution on a new route and wear a helmet.
